    On November 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall opened that had divided the city for almost 30 years. At night the Berlin Wall was torn down, dividing the German Capital for almost three more decades.
  • World Wide Web at age 31

    Tim Berners- Lee, a British scientist, invented the world Wide Web (WWW) in 1989, while working at CERN. The web was originally conceived and developed to meet the demand for automated information - sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world.

After all, the three decades between the first mobile phone and the first smartphone saw the advent of the modern internet. And that invention sparked the very beginning of the digital telecommunication phenomenon we see today.

  • Euro currency introduced

    The Euro came into existence on 1 January 1999, although it had been a goal of the European Union (EU) and it predecessors sine the 1960s. After tough negotiations, particularly due to opposition from the United Kingdom, the Maastricht Treaty entered into force in 1993 with the goal of creating an economic and monetary union by 1999 for all EU except the UK and Denmark (even though Denmark has a fixed exchange rate policy with the euro).

  • PSA launching
