  • Jamestown

    The Virginia company sailed to a new land to begin a new settlement to please Queen Elizabeth I. Jamestown was the first permanent British settlement in North America. It took great discipline and tremendous effort to keep Jamestown alive.
  • Refracting Telescope

    The Refracting Telescope was assumed to be invented by Hans Lippershey and Zacharia Jannsen in 1608, although, other inventors were close behind them. The refracting telescope magnified images through a lens.
  • Thirty Years War

    The Thirty Years War began as a religious war between the Catholics and the Protestant states. Eventually, much of the Holy Roman Empire was involved. The War shifted from religion to territorial control and France eventually won in 1648.
  • Plymouth Colony

  • First Submarine

    In 1620 Cornerlis Drebbel constructed three different submarines. These subs were practical and could sustain life underwater for a period of time.
  • Battle of Lutzen

    The battle of Lutzen was fought during the thirty years war and was between the armies of Gustavus Adolphus and Bernhard of Saxe-Weimer. The protestants may have won the battle but they lost their commander and several other soldiers during the fight.
  • Pequot War

    The Pequot War was a brutal fallout between the Pequot people and English Settlers from Massachusetts Bay, Saybrook and Plymouth colonies as well as their allies. The cause of this war was over trade and control. The Pequot war was one of the first major battles in New England and resulted in a win for the English.
  • 1st Battle of Newbury

    The first battle of Newbury fell under the English Civil War and was between The Royalists and the Parliament of King Charles I. The Royalists could not defeat the parliament and left the battlefield.
  • Barometer

    In 1643 the Barometer was invented by Evangelista Torricelli. This invention was able to measure atmospheric pressure and proved to be a great success in weather forecasting.
  • Great Northern War

    The Great Northern War also referred to as the second Northern War, was between Sweden and Russia. This war lasted for a long time and brought with it lots of change. Peter the Great led Russia to victory and Sweden was no longer the leading power in the Baltic Region.
