  • Birth: Charles Robert Darwin

Born in Shrewsbury, England to Dr. Robert Darwin (Ruse).
  • Medical School

  • New Career

With pressure from his family, Darwin enrolled at Christ's College at the University of Cambridge to start his studies to become an Anglican clergyman. Darwin and Natural Selection: Crash Course History of Science (http://site.ebrary.com/id/10307558?) shows some great enlightenment into this period of Darwin's life.
  • Graduation

Darwin graduated from college and started his adventure on the HMS Beagle. The voyage was to map the South American coastline and the surrounding islands.
  • Galapagos Archipelago

The Beagle visits the Galapagos Archipelago. During this visit, Darwin was able to observe the different species of birds and tortoises. Ultimately this helped lead forming his ideas about evolution.
  • Darwin the Evolutionist

"Darwin realized that the key to changing the forms of animals and plants is systematic selection." (Ruse). Playing into the concept that animals and plants evolve based on the surrounding environment. just as animals breeders select the best traits to pass to one generation to the next the same way natural selection functions.
  • Compiling Data

From 1842 to 1844 Darwin would work on his theories to leading to publishing. in 1842 he wrote a 35-page rough draft and in 1844 230-page essay.
  • Robert Chambers

Robert Chambers publishes "Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation". Chambers' work was based on speculation with little to no scientific data. The work was well received among the religious community. The support the article received is often viewed to contribute to Darwin dealing with his publication.
