On this day the Confederate States of America surrendered being absorbed by the Union once again. This shows that even in war of brother vs brother both sides can eventually reconcile even if it takes years, this brotherly love and perseverance clearly highlight the American dream. -
Standard Oil was founded
Standard Oil created by John D. Rockafeller became the largest oil refinery in the world during its' time. This monopoly is the perfect representation of what it meant to be a titan of industry. Competition was never acceptable and any measure necessary to bleed your competitors dry was taken and implemented. Men like Rockafeller symbolize what it means to start from nothing and become one of the most successful self-made men in history. -
J.P. Morgan and Co. is founded
J.P. Morgan represents the American dream as he like Tom Buchanan are both very successful men in their own right but they did not earn their wealth, they inherited it. -
Ford's Model T is released to the public
Ford was the first American car maker to mass produce affordable vehicular transports for the common man. Ford's Model T's were quality and durable machines that showed his competitors great value at a cheaper price point shaping the American Dream in a different way. Ford proved that partaking in the American dream didn't mean you had to use any tactic necessary to cut down your competitors or flaunt your wealth but prioritize the quality of your products and put the common man first. -
The Great Depression and "Hoover Flags"
"Hoover Flags" was a term created by Democrats as a way to mock president Hoover for the actions he took to rebuild the country during the depression. "Hoover Flags" serve to represent the drastic change Americans faced in the twenties and the thirties highlighting just how far removed most Americans were from reaching the American Dream. -
Women gained the right to vote.
This showed that through hard work and dedication there is no limit to the progress you can reach in reaching the goal of reforming society and make it a better place for all who live in it. The women's suffrage movement is a good example of what it means to live the American Dream, just by having the opportunity to make an impact on the country in a significant matter and change public perception. -
America Enters The Second World War.
Showed the world that an attack on American soil by any foreign nation would not be tolerated. It also showed the dedication and the nobility of those who risked their lives to deter tyranny from the rest of the world preserving the American dream. -
VE Day
All of Nazi Tyranny was purged from the world and the allies came out of the conflict victorious. America is a big factor in the war dubbed May 8th V-E Day to commemorate the victory of the allies and the war that would forever change the future of the world.
