after getting seperated from Niska, Xavier floows a moose for days. After not being able to kill the moose with a bow he spots a herd of goose that are mating, he is able to kill one and cook it. Xavier finds out it was a test.

Niska is forced to kill a Windigo, Xavier watches in horror. Later Niska tells Xavier of her role as a Windigo killer and that he will be one too someday.

Xavier wants to have a friend to hunt and talk with. He askes Niska to move closer to the town so Elijah can vistit.

The two boys hunt together. They begin a friendly rivrly that spands the whole summer. Elijah is forced to go back to school after.

The Divison of Canadians are moved to Vimy. Where, during the cold months, the Canadians were successful in raiding and killing in German trenches.

With Xaviers and Elijah's markmenship keeping Machine guns at bay, the Canadians were able to quickly advance up the hill and take the high ground.

After a long journey to Albert, Xavier learns that Lisette is a prositute. After returning he feels beaten and no longer cares what happens to him. Only Elijah's quick thinking saves him from the firing squad.

The Divison is moved to Lens in order to secure one of Germany's last strongholds.

after taking the church, Elijah is pinned at the top of the tower. Graves and another soldier are tasked with clearing a basement with mill bombs. On the way over to throw the grenades, a soldier weilding the flamethrower burns Graves to death.

Both Xavier and Elijah meet Peggy at a bar. It is clear Elijah has a rivraly towards Peggy, Who is another great Cree sniper. During a bombing run Elijah thinks of killing Peggy.

During a trench raid in Lens, Xavier's squadren is tricked into a kill zone and ripped apart by shelling, McCaan is killed by the German clean up crew and Thompson dies of his injuries later.

A Pilot offers to take Elijah into the air. Elijah was wanting to go but as soon as they got in the air, Elijah suddenly felt vanurable and scared. He realized he was not invicable which changed Elijah from that point on.

niska has become worried for Xavier. She asks her friend Joseph to write him a letter for her. Telling Xavier that he must return because he is the last of thier bloodline. She also mentions Elijah and to do what he must to keep hime safe.

while clearing a house, Xavier is startled by a women and accidentally shoots her, a child comes out and cries over her mom and attacks Xavier. Eliojah enters and quickly kills the child. Xavier feels horrible about what happened.

Xavier is unable to read english so must go to Fat for help. The writing is barely reable due to Joseph's bad writing ability. The letter is misread and says that Niska is dead and that Xavier should kill Elijah. This sends Xavier into deeper sorrow and questions if he should kill Elijah.

Elijah, looking to kill more Germans, asks Xavier to divine for him. When Elijah pulls out a human shoulder blade Xavier sees how crazy his friend has gotten. Xavier refuses to Divine.

After Elijah butched the German for his Shoulder blade, Xavier feels he must kill Elijah, Xavier enters Elijahs sleeping area and tries to inject lethal amounts of morphine into his body. Elijah catches him and stops him.

After visiting a hospital for morphine, Elijah is drawn to a suffering soldier. Elijah puts him out of misery by giving him a lethal dose of it. This is the first time Eligh killed for nothing but pleasure.

After Grey Eyes blew the whistle on Elijah and his addiction. Elijah is put on charges but holds Grey Eyes and Breech at gun point. A motor hits thier building giving Elijah the oppertunity to kill them both.

After Elijahkills a German trying to ambush him, Xavier walks to him and catches him eating pieces of the dead man. Elijah claims he only did what he had to survive. Xavier doesn't belive him and says he crossed the line.

During an Offencive, Elijah and Xavier get pinned down by motars. Elijah tells Xavier only one will makw it back. The two men fight for a few moments and Xavier is able to kill Elijah.

In shock after killing his best friend, Xavier walks into the shelling area and is hit by a wizbang. During surging Xavier loses his leg and is sent home.

After Xavier finds Niska alive, they begin their way back home. Though Xavier has lost the will to live and is addicted to morphine.

Xavier is able to find forgivness for his actions and able to recover from his addiction. Niska has a new vision showing her that the future will be one of peacfulness.
