Learning about slavery was a little nerve racking for me. Because having people get locked up for no apparent reason is wrong. At the Museum we saw what the slaves were locked up with and what they were forced to do. They wanted free labor and if they disagreed they would have to be taken away and do it anyway. They used that to get cotton, vegetables, and other crops.

After we got the feeling of the Museum Grandpa started talking about when he was in the Korean War. He was a truck driver for the troops and soldiers. I thought it was fascinating to have my Grandpa to be in a war when he was younger. It was surprising to have a man of color in the Korean War. He had to go to the war because he was drafted by the draft board and was told to go. Grandpa didn't want to go there in the first place he was just forced to go.

The Selma March is a good example for cooperation because it is about a group of African Americans cooperating. African Americans were protesting on the streets so the government would accept to have the same rights as the other people can. They thought it was unfair to be told to drink from what water fountain or being told to use a different bathroom. This march was led by Martin Luther King Jr. They walked from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.

When I was seven, I went to the National Museum of African American History and Culture with my Mom and Grandpa. I got to learn about my culture and my Grandpa's culture. I even got to learn about other famous African Americans who were shown in the Museum, such as: Michael Jackson, Mohamed Ali and Martin Luther King. It was cool to learn about their accomplishments and my history.

Learning about the African American culture was fascinating for me because I'm African American and I don't even know about my own culture that well. So having learn about slaves and how most African Americans made it and some didn't was new for me.
