Theory Turning Points

  • Bureaucracy

    Developed by Max Weber.
    If there is a problem in an organization, this theory says that individuals must first refer to the rules, regulations and procedures. If the problem can't be solved by refering to the rules then individuals must climb the chain of command.
  • Hawthorne Effect

    Developed by Elton Mayo.
    This theory changed the veiw from rules to paying attention to people. If there is a problem within a company, management looks to get feedback from employees. Human relations is implimented to make sure that the people are being heard and needs are met. This theory also improved working conditions to imporve work efficency.
  • Decision-Making Approach

    Developed by Herbert Simon.
    This theory is all about how and why decisions are made. Everyone is constantly faceing decisions to be made but it is what we do with the information that this theory looks at. Most decisions are made while only understanding segments of information rather than all sides and potentials. This theory stresses that it is essetial to understand as much as you can as well as all the potential options or outcomes.
  • Strong Culture Perspective

    Developed by Joanne Martin and Peter Frost.
    This theory strives to create strong values and that are reconizable to people that are outside the company. These strong values will drive the company as well as influence others outside the company that see the passion of those in the organization. These values could be positive or negative. An easy negative example is a gang. They are all tightly bound together with values that they hold and even as outsiders we can see what they value.
