    Peace of Augsburg

    The Peace of Augsburg was a treaty between Charles V and the Schmalkaldic League. It ended the religous struggle bwtween two groups and the divison of Christianity was permanant throughout the Holy Roman Empire. This allowed people to choose bewtween being Catholic or Lutheran.

    French Wars of Religion

    The French Wars of Religion was a very long war between Catholics and Huguenots in France. The reason the war started was because there were conflicts betwen protestants and Roman Catholics. Because of the spread of Calvinism Catherine de Medicis showed more kindess to the Huguenots which caused the Roman Catholics to get mad.

    Bartholomew's Day Massacre

    This Massacre was targeted towards assasinating Huguenots. The mob of Catholics went around and killed Huguenots during the French Wars of Religion. Charles had said there was a plot agasint The royal crown and it caused a huge outbreak of assassinations between the Huguenots and the Catholics.

    This was an Edict signed by King Henry IV. It granted the Calvinist Protestants huge amounts of rights in the nation. The edict upheld Protesants and permitted them from public worship. But in Paris, Protesant pastors were paid and realesed from certain positions that that they had been in.

    30 Years War

    The Thirty Years War was mostly fought in Europe and there was an estimated 4.5-8 million deaths. Most of them died from disease or starvation. The cause of the War was the fact that the holy roman emporer attempted to force everyone to be Roman Catholic and follow his rules exactly. He wanted all od Europe to be Roman Cathlioc and it broke nto a war.
  • Treaty of Westphalia

    This was a treaty that was a collective name for two peace treaties signed. This treaty ended the Thirty Years War. This was a defining moment in tolerance of secularization. It also brought nations together on deciding important matters.
