    In 1831 nationalist forces went against their foriegn leaders.This event happened in Parma and Modena, where their uprisings were crushed. they tried again in 1848 and got th e same results.

  • Count Camillo di Cavour

    Count Camillo di Cavour became the prime minister of Sardinia in 1852. Sardinia includes the piedmont region of northern Italy and the Island of Sardinia.Cavour was clever and used nationalism to try and unite it with the rest of Italy.
  • At Cavour's urging

    Sardinia decided to fight on the side of the British and French in the Crimean war. Cavour already being friends with Napolean III joined in the war against Austria. Sardinia and Lombardy joined together and were united in 1859. Later mostly the rest of northern Italy were united too.
  • Giuseppe Garibaldi

    Garibaldi led an invasion into Sicily to join a popular uprising. With the assistance of Cavour, Garibaldi was able to liberate Sicily and Naples. Although they were different they both found a desire to unify their people.
