The idea that the best way to prevent Soviet expansion was to strengthen governments politically. economically and socially provided justification for American intervention. The Berlin Blockade was an attempt in 1948 by the Soviet Union to limit the ability of The United States, Great Britain and France to travel to their sectors of Berlin, which lay within Russian occupied East Germany. The tension between The Soviet Union and its former allies in WW2, exploded into a full blown crisis in the city of Berlin. Alarmed by the new US policy of giving economic aid to Germany and other struggling European nations. The event influenced to divide nations. -

The Korean War
The Korean War begun when 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean People's army poured across the 38th parallel, the boundary between the Soviet-backed Democratic people's Republic of Korea to the north and the pro-western Republic of Korea to the south. American Troops had entered the war on South Korea's behalf. American Officials were concerned, it was a war against the forces of international communism itself. Tension was at it highest and unfortunately took 5 million lives. -

Star Wars ( Strategic Defense Initiative)
Stars Wars was set up in 1984 within the US Department of Defense to oversee development. A wide array of advanced weapon concepts, including lasers, particle beams weapons and ground and space based missile systems were studied and high performance computer systems that would be needed to control a system consisting of hundreds of combat centers and satellite's. This decreased the tension because it played a very prominent role in the U.S.-Soviet relationships in late 1980's -
