  • Founding of Jamestown, Virginia

Jamestown was the first english settlement in North America. The English came to Jamestown on three ships, Susan Consant, Godspeed, and Discovery. Since they were in the region of a powerful Indian Chief, they got attacked. During summer and fall, attacks, diseases and bad diet killed two-thirds of the men. I chose this event because Jamestown was the start of America. If they hadn't sailed to America, America might not have even been a country, and instead have been ruled by Native Americans.
  • Period: to

    French and Indian Wars

The French and Indian wars were wars between France and England, and Spain would side with the French sometimes. Both England and France fought with Indian allies. The war ended 1763 when they signed the Treaty of Paris. In the end, France lost all it's North American land and Britain gained most of the French land, but Spain got some land.
The reason I chose this event is because if England had not gotten control of those territories, we might not have been as big as we are today.
  • The Signing of the Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence was an act of the Second Continental Congress. Thomas Jefferson wrote the document and it was presented to Congress on June 28, 1776. The only person to sign the Declaration on July 4 was John Hancock. The other 54 delegates didn't sign it until August 2, 1776.
The reason I chose this event is because the Declaration of Indepence literally declares our independence from Britain. If we had not declared independence we would still be part of Britain.
  • Period: to

    Civil War

This war had families and friends being torn apart when they fought against each other. 11 southern slave states declared their secession from the United States and formed the Confederacy; the other 25 states supported the federal government . After four years of war, mostly within the Southern states, the South surrendered and slavery was removed from everywhere in the U.S. I chose this because this was the war that almost tore the U.S. apart. If the South had won, we would be a slave state.
  • Period: to

    WW1

The World War I was mostly in Europe, and it was the Germans, Austria-Hungarians and the Ottoman Empire (Central Powers), against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy and Japan (the Allied Powers). The U.S. joined the Allied Powers. The Central Powers were defeated, but there were many losses for both sides.
The reason I chose this event is because this was one of the major U.S. wars, (WW2 even bigger) and this was the war that lead up to WW2.
  • The Great Depression

The Great Depression was a worldwide economical crash. It was the worst and longest period of unemployment and low business activity in the 1900's. The stock market crashed, banks failed, and lots more. President Roosevelt helped America get out of the Great Depression. The reason I chose this event is because this depression was the biggest depresion the U.S has ever had. It should remind us that when we work hard, we get what we earn.
  • WW2

World War 2 happened when Adolf Hitler invaded Poland causing England and France to declare war against Germany. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor which caused the U.S. to go into war as well. This war destroyed more lives and more land than any other previous war.
The reason I chose this is clear- It was probably one of the biggest wars in U.S. history.
  • Moon Landing

On July 20, and amazing thing happened! At 03:17:40 pm, EST. The Apollo 11 spacecraft had landed on the moon with three men, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin Aldrin. The mission of Apollo 11 was to perform a "manned lunar landing" and return safely to Earth. The spacecraft had been launched on July 16, at 8:32 a.m. EST. The reason I chose this event is because this shows how in America, technology evolves quickly. All of the U.S. was watching Neil Armstrong land on the moon.
  • September 11 Attacks

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked (took over) four commercial airplanes. They flew two of the airplanes into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York, one into the Pentagon, and the last airplane was told to be heading towards the capitol, but the passengers and crew took the plane over and did not let it reach its target. The reason I chose this event is because the amount of deaths that happened that day is very sad. The U.S. (and I) will never forget that day.
  • Death of Osama Bin Laden

After the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. tried very hard to find whoever contributed to the attack. Osama was a big contributer, so the U.S. was trying to find him. After 10 years, the U.S. found him hiding in Pakistan. In the middle of the night, the U.S successfully found him and killed him. The reason I chose this event is because this was a day of joy in the U.S. if you watch the news for that day, you will watch people cheering "U.S.A.! U.S.A.!"
