    The first indian revolution, called the Sepoy Mutiny which was unseuccessful. It started in Deli when the indian sepoys refused to use the cartriges given by the British. That is what lit the fuse but unfortunately it failed.

    A group of middle-class intellectuals in India, some of them British, found the Indian National Congress to be a voice of Indian opinion to the British government. This was the origin of the later Congress Party.

    Dutch Christians overtake Bali after Puputan massacres in which Hindu Balinese royal families are murdered.

    Brigadier Dyer orders troops to shoot unarmed demonstrators in Amritsar, killing 379 innocent people. The massacre convinces Gandhi that India must demand full independence from oppressive British rule.
