In May 1838 troops began to remove Cherokee Idians from their homes. Families were split up. Dunring there was very little time to collect their belongings. First they were held in camps in Tennesse. Later the entire Cherokee people marched over 800 miles to Oklahoma. Almost one out of five Cherokees died. This long journey later became known as the trail of tear. Theses people wanted to know why they were grtting move. It was because of the government wanted to sell their land. -

Many Settlers traveled across a 2,000 mile trailto the west. The trail streched from missori to oregon. The journey took 4 to 6 months. During this trip they used wagons. The covered wagons were loaded with food and supplies. There was very little room. Most of the pionn=eers had to walk the whole day. Crossing rivers were the most dangerous. People started to die of diseases and bad weather.. Later on during the trip they stared to have trouble till they finally made it to their destination. -
