    The number of Kazakhstan settlers rose after the Trans-Aral Railway from Orenburg to Tashkent was completed. 400,000 Russians immigrated to Kazakhstan, and about one million Slavs, Germans, Jews, and others immigrated. Competition for land and water rose between the Kazakhs and the settlers, causing resentment. During the most serious uprising, Kazakhs attacked Rusiian and Slavic settlers and Military Garrisons, resulting in brutal massacres by both sides.

He was also re elected again in 2011. Important because Nazarbayev is working hard towards developing a market economy.

Citizens were killed in a massacre by the Armenians, among the approximately 600 bodies discovered, about 50 were of children and a 100 were women. Important because it showed the true and ruthless impact of the fighting.

    Elected president Abulfaz Elchibey was overthrown by military Colonel Surat Huseynov, resulting in the rise to power of former leader of Soviet Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev. In 1994, Huseynov, now prime minister, attempted another military coup on Aliyev, but Huseynov was arrested and charged with treason. Aliyev managed to reduce the country's unemployment,bring stability, peace, and major foreign investment. He was reelected in 1998. Important because it began a period of growth for the country.
