At Oyster Bay, New York,President Theodore Roosevelt came on board wishing Peary luck. -
Matt started training
Matt began training the real men in the art of dog driving,igloo building,and survival at Cape Sheridan. -
There prize possession
Each man was supossed to grab a special possession and Matt picked his bible. -
Left Cape Columbia
Bartlett and Borup left from Cape Columbia to pioneer the trail. Bartlett set out to follow the trail. -
To the North Pole
Matt, the leader of the main group, waited for Peary`s command to march forward. -
Big and Fearful
When Henson and Peary were at the Big Lead it was big and fearful. -
Still Waiting Beside the Big Lead
Henson and Peary were still waiting beside the Big Lead.
Peary fixed the compasses and Matt worked on sledges. -
The Lead
Matt, Peary, and the crew were able to cross the Lead because it was frozen over. -
Ross Marvins turned back
It was Ross Marvins turn to turn back home and three men had already returned home. -
Henson and Peary finally caught up.
Henson and Peary finally caught up with Bartlett beside a Big Lead,and when they were sleeping Matt heard a grinding noise and saw that the ice broke between Henson`s, Peary`s,and Bartlett`s igloos were floating away. -
It was Captain Bob Bartlett`s turn to turn around and go back home.
At 87º46 it was Captain Bob Bartlett`s turn to turn to go back home.
The crew preparied sledges and the crew rested. -
Called the Moon and Sun Silver and Gold
Peary started out on foot and then he rode the sledge and he called the moon and sun silver and gold. -
Came to a Lead Covered in Thin Ice
Peary and Henson came to a lead covered in thin ice and runners broke through and Peary fell in. Then Ootah lifted him up and Peary was safe. -
Only 35 Miles to go.
Robert Peary stopped and watched the sun and decided they were 89 degrees 25 only 35 miles to go. -
The North Pole at Last
Peary put the American flag in a bottle and placed it in the ground to mark that the crew made it to the north Pole. -
They Made it Back to the ship.
Matt and Peary returned to the Roosevelt safley.
When Matt reached the ship his friends were running up to him and they took him on the ship.
Matt was overjoyed to see that he was safe with friends.
