    Mexican - Spanish war

    President Guerrero took power over a liberal government shrouded in questionable legality and dependent upon the loyalty of the military. Immediately upon assuming office, Guerrero experienced his first major crisis when the Spanish attempted to retake Mexico. A Spanish force of 3,000 soldiers under the command of General Isidro Barradas landed at Tampico in July 1829.

    Mzilikazi, came into conflict with Shaka and in 1823 was forced to flee, migrating with his followers first to Basutoland and then north to the Marico Valley. In 1822, in a quarrel with their kinsman, the Matabele people under their king Mzilikasi, are forced to flee Shaka. Mzilikasi formed his own kingdom in the fertile Marico River valley, after his powerful army of 6000 men drive out the resident Sotho and Tswana people.

    Our Village is a collection of about 100 literary sketches of rural life written by Mary Russell Mitford (1787–1855), and originally published during the 1820s and 1830s. The series first appeared in The Lady's Magazine. The full title is: Our Village: Sketches of Rural Character and Scenery. The vivid series was based upon life in Three Mile Cross, a hamlet in the parish of Shinfield (south-east of Reading in Berkshire), where she lived.
