In the Second Continental Congress, colony representatives agreed that every militia should be joined into one Continental Army. They unanimously selected George Washington as the commander. In the Fight for Boston, the Continental Army defends Bunker and Breed's Hill against a British fleet of ships. Colonists fired at the ships repeatedly, and eventually, cannons were broght from Vermont to scare the British away.

Women and children faced increased burdens, their fathers/husbands not being at home. Some even directly fought in the wars.
