    The Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act, passed by the British, forced everyone in America to pay a 3 cent tax on sugar, coffee, indigo, and wine. The colonist were angered by this because the British did not ask permission first, and didn't like how they were being controlled by the British.

  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act required that all newspapers, pamphlets, and other public or legal documents have a stamp, or British seal on them. In which the stamp costed money! The colonists were enraged and formed the Stamp Act Congress to deliver an angry response about the Stamp Act to the British Parlimant.
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts
    In June of 1767, a series of laws were passed in Britain that placed taxes on glass, lead, paper, paints, and tea. The colonist revolted again and it was successful. Great Britain took all the taxes away except one.. tea. The British then decided to send troops to America because they were afraid that the colonist would get to violent.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    On March 5, 1770, 5 colonist were killed by British tropps in front of the Old State House. This act by the British enraged the colonist very much and wanted the British troops to leave the colonies.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    On the night of December 16, 1773, the "Sons of Liberty" disguised themselves as Mohawk Native Indians and boared three British ships to dump all the tea out.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker Hill, which actually took place on Breed's Hill, was a big vantage point for the colonist but was techinally considered a British win. The colonist sat on top of Breed's Hill waiting for the British to come to the very top, the they shot them down. After a couple of times doing this the colonists ran out of ammo and had to evacuate/surrender.

    The Declaration of Independence Signed
    This document was written by Thomas Jefferson and the Continental Congress declaring there Independence from Britain for the 13 colonies.
  • The Winter at Valley Forge

    The Winter at Valley Forge
    The horrible time at Valley Forge, which lasted from Dec. 19 ,1777 to June 19,1778, really showed the courage and determination set out by George Washington. Many many men died at Valley Forge by disease, starvation, and exposure.
  • The Surrender at Yorktown

    The Surrender at Yorktown
    The day of Oct. 19, 1781 was day when General Cornwallis and the British Army surrendered to the colonies. General Cornwallis brought 8,000 British troops to Yorktown. They expected help from British ships sent from New York. The British ships never arrived which was lucky for George Washington and the Continental Army.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris of 1783, negotiated between the United States and Great Britain, ended the revolutionary war and recognized American independence. The Continental Congress named a five-member commission to negotiate a treaty–John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Laurens.
