The Progress and Decline of the Time Period 1914-1929

  • During WW1

    During WW1
During the war certain men and women started to gain certain right as to enlisting in the war. What is meant by this is that men of ethnic backgrounds were allowed to enlist and help in the war. Women on the other hand were allowed to serve in the war as nurses to help the soldiers that were wounded. I think this was a time of progress (Scale of +1)
  • The start of WW1

    The start of WW1
I would say that this part of time was a time of a bit of both progress and decline. (Scale of 0). The reason being is that we were able to enlist people of all ethnic backgrounds in the war but at the same time, we lost thousand of peoples lives all to show pride and gain honour.
  • Women on the Home Front

    Women on the Home Front
During this time women weren't allowed the same rights to vote as men were but, things changed since men were enlisting of to war. Women who were related to men that enlisted in the war were given the rights to vote. This would mean that some progress was made. (Scale of 0 to +1)
  • Enemy Aliens and the Home Front

Enemy Aliens and the Home Front
During this time people of opposing countries were limited of their freedom of becoming a civilian. Anyone that came from opposing countries were either deported or arrested without any trial. The government wouldn't allow anyone of enemy countries to enter into Canada. This was apart of the declining process of this time period. (Scale -1 or -2)
  • The Economy

    The Economy
When the government was low in funds for the war, they started to depend on their citizens to fund it for them. Since they did this, taxes were added to many items and those taxes were used for the funds. Unfortunately, if taxes were not paid fines were given out to the people who did not pay them. It would start at $100 to the maximum of $10,000. This i feel would be a time of a little of both progress and decline (Scale of 0).
  • The French Canadians

    The French Canadians
During the time of war these men that are French Canadian did not want to be included into the process of enlisting into the war. They thought that the war wasn't as exciting anymore and the recruitment started to drop like flies. They did not want to be involved in a war that did not concern them. It had nothing to do with them so they backed out. I think this was a time of both decline and progress. We started to stick up for ourselves but had less soldiers enlisted in the war. (Scale of 0)
  • End of WW1

    End of WW1
Finally the end of the war had begun. When the war ended, everyone was thrilled no more lives would be taken and there would no more be any battlefield violence. When our Canadians returned many families were happy and there was a positive attitude being spread. Although we lost many lives, they would be honoured for fighting for our country. This was a time of progress for us Canadians. (Scale of +1 or +2)
  • The 1920's

    The 1920's
Once the 1920's hit we progressed from the war and started to celebrate the good things in life. We started up Jazz music and wore flappers and many other things started to be invented in the 1920's. We forgot about the past of the war and we started to accept people of ethnic backgrounds. It was a time of much progress. (Scale of +1 to +2)
