The Black Death begun in Central Asia. It was spread by rats and fleas. The virus was called Yersina pestis.

People, not understanding the biology of the disease, thought that it was a punishment from God. They tried to earn His forgiveness by killing as many Jews and people of other religions as possible. Thousands of Jews died during this time.

The Black Plague had finished killing by 1353, but every so often it pops up again. With today's hygiene and sanitation, it is harder for a disease like the Plague to thrive but it still is not totally eradicated.
