    The AFT helped the teachers to become a group and be treated like professionals. Schools need teachers that can make a decent living and also be able to take care of their own families. A teacher who can teach their students without worrying about medical bills or their next meal will help the teacher focus on their students.

    America was awakened that many adults could barely read and needed to change in the schools' education. All students that ranged from the gifted to the handicap needs were being met. Students were being looked at as an individual and not as a group of students.
