Johnny thought he was lonely, nobody cared about him. He liked it better the old man hit him rather than disregard him. Pony kept comforting that he got the whole gang, which showed the profound friendship between them.

A group of Socs found Pony and Johnny and they wanted to jump them. While they almost killed Pony, Johnny stabbed a boy, Bob, which was also Cherry’s boyfriend. He died in a pool of blood. The events is the vital turning point in this story, meanwhile this incident increased the contradictions between two gangs.

Because of the extreme fear, they asked Dally for help and then ran away by train. In this period of life, these two best friends got much closer. And them thought a lot and learn a lot. The most necessary thing was not won, but to stay gold.

One morning, while they were seeing the sunrise, Johnny read a poem to Pony. “…Nothing gold can stay.” This sentence throughout the whole novel. Johnny wanted Pony to stay gold for his whole life.
