Tariff of 1828
The Tariff of 1828 was created to place a higher tax on imports and increase the price of British textiles. The tariff benefits the northerners because more of their cloth gets sold. However, southerners opposed the tariff because it decreases the demand for their cotton. -
South Carolina Exposition
The South Carolina Exposition was created to protest the Tariff of 1828, and it was written by John C. Calhoun. The document emphasizes the idea that a state has the right to reject a federal law and that they can question its constitutionality. Southerners were upset and claimed the Tariff of 1828 was unconstitutional, so this doucment was a result of that claim. -

Tariff of 1832
The Tariff of 1832 was passed to decrease the prices of tax on imports and goods and to try to appease the southerners anger over the Tariff of 1828. However, the southerners remain angry because of the fact that their economy has suffered from people not buying their goods. -
Jackson's Proclaimation Against Nulification
On December 10, 1832, President Jackson states that the states do not have the right to nulify any federal laws. As a result of this, Congress then passes the Force Bill in order to force South Caroline to pay the tariffs that were being enforced. -

The Force Bill was signed into act by Andrew Jackson and Congress to use the military to force the laws onto South Carolina, who was currently opposing the United States law and certain tariffs. -
The Repeal of Nulification in South Carolina
On March 11, 1833, South Carolina repeals their nulification ordinances. This happens because the Tariff of 1832 lowered the prices of goods and taxed imports. This event brings an end to the nuilification crisis and relieves the government of the extra stress. It also makes the United States feel that everything will be okay and a split will not occur.
