    Genghis Khan

    In 1185, Temujin, (Later known as Genghis Khan) becomes the leader of his Mongol tribe at the age of 18.
  • 1206

    The Mongol Empire is United

    The empire was fully founded in 1206. Beforehand, the Mongols had remained as nomadic farmers, travelling frequently to sustain their resources.
  • 1227

    Genghis Khan's Death

    Genghis Khan died in 1227, and fights amongst his successors split the empire into four. Golden Hordes in the Northeast, Yuan Dynasty or Great Khanate in China, Ilkhanate in the Southeast and Persia, and the Chagatai Khanate in Central Asia.

    Kublai Kahn

    Kublai Khan's rule began in 1264, and in 1271, he established the Yuan Dynasty, claiming the title Great Khan and Emperor of China

    The Mongols Try to Invade Japan

    An attempted Mongol invasion of Japan fails because of a typhoon ("Kamikaze" to the Japanese)
  • 1281

    The Mongols Try to Invade Japan Again

    A second attempt at invading Japan also fails.

    Kublai Khan Dies

    After Kublai Khan died, the Mongol Empire began to fall apart

    The Mongol Empire Falls

    The Mongols are driven out of Beijing, marking an end to the Yuan Dynasty and the Mongol Empire
