The start of World War 1 was sparked by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand which was carried out by a Serb nationalist. The assasination actually happened around a month before July 28th but by that time, most of Europe had become tangled in the conflict which started the war. The Allies included France, United Kingdom, Russia and Australia. The Central Powers included Germany and Austria-Hungary. This war was said to be the 'War To End All Wars'.

This day was the end of World War 1 which is also known as Armistice Day. The document to end the war was signed at the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month. There were over 16 million deaths and 20 million injured in the war.
