VideoWomen worked in ammunition factories as the men were away at war. These jobs were extremely dangerous to women. Women would never be allowed to work in factories if it was not for the extreme desperation the country had for people to take over the role of men while they were away. Women's Land Army
Video Women's Land Army is the last minute recruitment of women in the war as soldiers. This helps prove this is the lost generation because this shows the extreme desperation that the country was in. Rosie the Riveter Influence
This is a cultural icon that represents women that work in factories while the country is at war, and the men are away. The term "Rosie" is used as a symbol for women who work so hard as assembly line workers to help do their part during the war. Suffragettes
VideoThis was a movement for women to have the right to vote. Woodrow Wilson passed the suffrage amendment as a result of his enthusiastic wife and daughters, showing now that he endorsed women’s suffrage. Wilson said that America could not have fought in the war if it was not for the services of the women. This was significant to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness because women were starting to become respected in the United States for everything they have done during war. -
Prohibition
Alcohol was the blame of a lot of the crime during this time period. Women would complain about men using up their entire paycheck on alcohol. This is significant to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness because there were many loopholes in these laws, and even the average citizen broke the law to prove liberty and happiness for themselves. -
The Jazz Age

This appealed to many, resulting in many people wanting to escape rural America. This was against everything American citizens used to know, therefore starting a revolution. -

Chanel's style introduced the modern woman. She used a masculine influence, which later became known as the "flapper" look. This is significant to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness because Chanel helped shape the face of women's style in the 1920's, and played a huge part in designing the independent, intelligent, sexy woman figure of the 1920s. -
The Nineteenth Amendment
This amendment officially gave women the right to vote. This was significant to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness because it helped change the views of women’s roles in America. This helped lead to the emergence of "The New Woman." -
The New Woman
This movement challenged the stereotypical gender roles that the country had prior to the war. The New Woman had an increase of presence in public, some became female athletes and glamourous performers, and other became "working girls." This is significant to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness because this provoked women's individuality. -
Flappers
VideoAfter many years of taking on the roles of men in society, women began to gain self-respect, many cut their hair into boyish styles. They began to wear makeup and short skirts. This relates to the lost generation because before this, it was so far-fetched forwomen to become independent. Feminism
Feminism during this time period was a time for women to gain self-respect, independence, and freedom. Women began smoking in public and wearing fewer clothes. This is significant to the theme of life, liberty and the purusuit of happiness because women felt free and came to the realization that they can be just as good as men. -
Equal Rights Amendment
This states, “Men and women shall have equal rights throughout the United States and every place subject to its jurisdiction.” This is significant to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because it shows that after all the fighting for individuality,women finally got the equal rights they were looking for. Although this amendment was not ratified, it was a step in the right direction for women's rights. -
Automobiles
The automobile was used as a social symbol, and many people during this time period didn't know how to drive. This is significant to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness because the emergence of automobiles gave women the freedom to come and go as they please, and to go wherever they wanted whenever they wanted. -
Athletes
During the Roaring Twenties, women began making a name for themselves in the world of sports. Women began playing golf, tennis, and making world records in Olympic sports such as track and field. This is significant to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness because as women became the most popular athletes of the 20s, they had successfully made men notice them and their accomplishments as individuals. -
Talking Pictures
The development ofsound recordings transformed motion pictures into talking pictures. This had the film industry roaring. Some women had the oppurtunity to become glamourous movie stars. This is significant to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because these movie stars gave women a role model, proving thatthere are women who have individuality and can make a living for themselves.
