  • The Birth of Richard

    The Birth of Richard
Richard was born in 1744 in Bondu Senegambia West Africa. He was raised by his mom and father. But at the age of 4 Richards’s father was captured and killed. I chose this picture because it best represents what a family would look like.
  • Slavery

    Slavery
When he was the age of an average grade eleven, in 1760 he got capture in one of those slavery conflicts. He belonged to the Royal African Company. Richard was chained to another man and made to lie hip to hip, shoulder to shoulder on a shelf in the dark. I chose this picture because it best describes the way the slaves would travel across the ocean.
  • World War One

    World War One
Richard Pierpoint dropped out of sight for twenty years. In 1780 world one started. Richard was then called Captain Dick which late changed to Pawpine. I chose this picture because it best represents what an African American would look like preparing for war.
  • Beginning of the Farmer Life

    Beginning of the Farmer Life
In July 1784, a year after the war ended, Richard left the army and became a seasoned veteran at the age of thirty-six and disappeared again for four years. He stayed in the working area as a farmhand. I chose this picture because it best fits the description of a hard working farmer.
  • Hard Working

    Hard Working
1788 was the day Richard was granted, as a veteran, a 200-acre parcel of land on Twelve Mile Creek, near present-day St Catharines, Ontario. He worked for three years to clear the land and build a dwelling. I chose this picture because it gives you an idea of what Richard looks like working in a farm.
  • Hard at work

    Hard at work
January 1791, lots 13 and 14, Concession 6 became Richard’s property. But later on Richard sold them because it was too dangerous and back-breaking work to turn a forest into a farm. I chose this picture because it shows how Richard would be look after a long day of farming.
  • Petition to Governor

    Petition to Governor
In 1794 Pawpine and a number of other free Africans created a petition for Governor John G. Simcoe. They had requested desirous of settling adjacent to each other in order that they may be able to assistance in work to those amongst them. Also to those who want assistance. I chose this picture because it matches the description.
  • American's Invade

    American's Invade
Six years passed and there was no record of Pawpine. The American’s got mad and invaded Canada, trying to grab more land. The reason why is because half a land isn’t enough and they wanted more land. I chose this picture because it helps give a picture of what the description looks like.
