  • Anthony Johnson (Introductoin) Part 1

    Anthony Johnson (Introductoin) Part 1
Anthony Info Slaves in Colonial times were very different from when it started and when it evolved. In the beginning Africans were brought to the colonies as indentured servent, just like Englishmen. As laws were passed Africans became slaves and then property! But some Africans who were brought to the colonies, like Anthony Johnson, became free and escaped a life time of slavery.
  • Anthony Johnson (intro) Part 2

    Anthony Johnson (intro) Part 2
...But all the laws put hardships on every Africans, even free ones! As we follow Anthonys life you can see how Anthony gains progress and becomes free, but then diminishing progress putting hardships on him.

    Progress

This is the time span of progress for Anthony Johnson.
  • Gun Law

    Gun Law
More Info~A law is passed that says; Every person, except Africans, should be provided with a gun and ammunitoin. But if you are an African with a gun you would be fined.~
This law or act shows diminishing progress because it takes away the main way to find food, or hunt, for all Africans and slaves. It also makes the slaves more dependent on the Englishmen, for crops and meat, and also for protection from wild animals and other dangers in the colonies.
  • Gun Law Prt.2

    Gun Law Prt.2
It also makes the free Africans have a harder time finding food, unless they grow some kind of crop.
  • Period: to

    Diminishing Progress

This is the time span of diminishing progress of Anthony Johnson.
  • Anthony Johnson Acquires Land

    Anthony Johnson Acquires Land
~Anthony acquires land, and corn from Captain Taylor.~
This shows progress because it shows that even Africans can acquire land from an Englishmen, once they are free. It shows more of an indentured servant relatoinship between the African and the Englishmen, rather than a slave relatoinship. It can also show africans can earn a living and grow crops to survive with out full dependence on Englishmen.
  • Anthony Johnson Earns a Slave in Court

Anthony Johnson Earns a Slave in Court
Court Document ~Anthony wins a court case against a Englishmen, for his slave. Even thought on his first try he lost, but then went back and won.~
This shows progress because it shows that even Africans can go to court and go against an Englishmen, win, and get back what they were fighting for. This also shows that Africans have ownership rights of slaves just like Englishmen.
  • Can't Buy Christain Slaves

    Can't Buy Christain Slaves
Slave Laws Info~Act IV no Indian or African can buy Christain slaves~
This shows diminishing progress because now Africans and Indians can't buy Christain slaves, and since most people were Christian it would be harder to find labor for African and now also Indians this also shows Englishmen also putting a law on Indians! But this also makes it harder for African farmers to grow crops, to get food.
  • Slaves are Estate

    Slaves are Estate
~Act XXII; act that declared Africans, Biracial, and Indians to be officially estate or property.~
This shows the final stage of diminishing progress, because this actually states that Africans, Biracial, and Indians are property and not humans. Instead of just trying to make them property through laws, they now have just all out said it. And now slaves are not just humans in a loop of slavery, they are just simply property in the loop of slavery.
  • Conclusion (Part 2)

    Conclusion (Part 2)
Would you think it was unfair to have slaves, if you were an Englishman from that time? Probably not, it was normal for that time. But today it seems horrible! But remember the history has changed and made us free Americans! So if this ever happens again, make sure freedom stays strong.
  • Conclusion

    Conclusion
Things have changed through history, for example now there are no slaves. Unlike in colonial times when it began with africans being indentured servants, to slaves, and then to real estate. But some Africans have traveled on the progress path, instead of the diminishing progress path, and escaped a life time of slavery like Anthony Johnson. Life was obviously hard, but now life has gotten better and we are free! How would you feel if you were an AFrican coming to the Colonies? Scared, mad?
