As Soviet troops close in on Hitler's bunker located in Berlin, he commits suicide. Only 8 days after his death, Germany surrenders, which marks the end of World War 2 in Europe. The only one from the Frank family to come out of the war alive is Anne's father Otto. A woman named Miep who helped hide the Frank family had saved Anne's diary. She then returned it to Otto, unread.

Anne's diary, which she kept during the war, is first publsihed in Dutch. Today, her diary is one of the World's most popular books and has been translated into 50 languages.
