  • Harvey Milk

    Harvey Milk
    This fine gentleman won a spot on San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He protected gay rights in the workplace ESPECIALLY IN EDUCATION. He was assasinated a year later. His killer, Dan White, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to only seven years in prison. The LGBT community was so outraged they rioted and destroyed San Fransisco's City Hall. They followed that night with a peaceful demonstration to remember Milk on his birthday.

    After the newspaper prints an article about a rare pneumonia and skin cancer found in several gay men, the CDC declares the Gay Related Immune Deficiency Disorder. Later discovering the symptoms can be found in all sexual orientations and renaming it AIDS.

    Reagan signs the Ryan White Care Act
    Ryan White, a teenager from Indiana, conracted AIDS through a medical treatment. After being discriminated against aggressively, he became a well known activist for research. Reagan signed this Care Act to raise fedearl funding for people with AIDS.

    A landmark case where the Supreme Court rule Colorado's second amendment as unconstitional. The state's amendment denied the LGBT community protection from discrimination.

    President Clinton signed this Act into law that defined marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman. It also said that states didn't have to recognize marriages from other states.

    President Obama signs into law the expansion of U.S. Federal Hate Crime Law. Matthew Shepard was violently killed because of his sexual orientation. The law was expanded to include hate crimes motivated by sexual orientation, actual or perceived gender, or disability.
