    During the time Italy was invaded by Napoleon, the states unified into one government. Anyhow, when Napoleon was defeated the Congress of Vienna split the states up.

    He formed Young Italy in 1831, a nationalist group that fought for the unification of Italy. He was a writer who wanted nationalism and he was even exiled because of his opinions on nationalism.

    He rebelled against Austria to unite the Italian states and won. He was known as the brain of the Italian unification, he became Prime Minister of Sardania and planned to eradicate the Austrian government. His plan worked because France supported Sardinia, and Sardina supported France in the war.

    The fight for unification between Italian states continues.Giuseppe continued fighting so the rest of Italy´s states would be unified. Became parto of Young Italy in1833. He was exiled to South America because of his nationalist activities. In there he learned Guerrilla Warfare which then he later used to gain control of Sicily. During this war Garibaldi, the Red Shirts (his followers), and Cavour gained Lombardy, Sicily and Naples.

    Italy becomes united under the Rule of King Victor Emmanuel. They elected if Italian States should be unified or not. This didnt apply to Venetia or the Papal States, Venetia belonged to Austria and the Papal States was were the french troops supported the pope. The Unification was complete when Italians sided with Prussians in a war between Austrians and Prussians. The Prussians won Venetia and gave it to Italy with Rome , which force the troops to come back to France.

    Rome was declared capital of Italy, this is after the unification. They were some reasons that Italians werent unified (The southern Italians didnt want to be governed by Rome). Some problems Italy had at the unification: Poverty, rising taxes, unemployment, rioting and violence, italians inmigrating, etc.

    Italy made alliances (military alliances) with Austria-Hungary and Germany, this was called the Triple Alliance. This stated that they would help and defend each other if there was a possible attack.

    Italy tried to take over Ethiopia, but this failed because Ethiopian army was bigger in 1896. There was another attempt to gin tghat territory. Italy went to war with the Ottoman Empire, and they result in success and gain land in Africa.
