    The Spread of Industrialization Came with Positive Social Effects in Areas Affected. THEME SOCIAL 3rd Block Grant Robertson

    While across the globe from 1750-1900, social aspects in regions affected by industrialization were not affected or negatively affected, changing from the current global path of social improvement, the positive social impact, especially through suffrage, of the spread of industrialization continued to be more prominant as shown through increased voting rights in France, the Greek Revolution, and the education gains in Prussia.
  • French Suffrage Increases

    In France in 1792, universal male suffrage was enacted. This was a positive social change, adding voting rights to people. Because it followed the trend of positive social events, it is a continuity event. This event is related to the theme of social because it has to do with the freedoms and rights (suffrage) of the people.
  • The Greek Revolution

    In Greece in 1820, the Greek Revolution took place. It allowed for social reforms to take place that aided the Greeks, including suffrage. This is a continuity event because it follows the trend of social improvements during the Industrial Age. This is related to the theme of Social because it deals with social reforms and adding rights to citizens.
  • British Reform Bill of 1832

    In Britain in 1832, a bill was passed that was meant to subdue protests by proving social changes. These changes gave many reformer's their goals, and succesfully prevented revolution for a small amount of time. This is a continuity event because it continues the trend of positive social effects of the Industrial Era. This relates to the social theme because it relates to social reforms being enacted.
  • The Chartist Movement

    Around the 1840's in Britain, the Chartist movement was created to improve suffrage, education, and working ocnditions. Despite this, unrest occured and revolutions ensued anyway, so the Chartist movement essentially failed. Because the Chartist movement broke the trend of social improvements during the Industrial Era, this is a change event. This event is related to the social theme because it involves social reforms for citizens.
  • British Suffrage Increases

    After the 1848 revolutions in Britain, suffrage was extended. The right to vote was not applied to a larger percent of men in Britain, thanks to Benhamin Disraeli. This was a continuity event because it kept with the trend of social themes improving during the Industrial Era. This event is a social event because it involves voting rights and the rights of the classes.
  • Prussian Education and Voting Improved

    After the 1848 revolutions, in Prussia, the leader, Otto von Bismarck, extended many social rights. These include freeing the Jews, helping education grow, and letting all men vote. This is a continuity event because it continutes the trend of the Industrial Era improving the social aspects of a society. This is a social event because it involes the education, and voting, of different classes in a society.
  • The failure of the Austrian, German, Hugarian, and Italian Revolutions

    Around 1849, revolutions had occured in Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Italy. These were meant to improve the social conditions of the citizens. These revolutions did not succeed in immediatly bringing positive change however. Because of that, this is a continuity event, because it broke the trend of positive social changes in the Industrial Era (in France's case it got arguably worse due to Napoleon III). This is a social event because it involves social uprisings and revolutions.
  • European Sanitation and Urban Life Changes Positvely

    Throughout Europe in the second half of the 19th century, social themes improved. Sanitation for the people, along with urban life and the life of the needy improved due to industrialization. This is continuity event because it follows the trend of social aspects of life improving during the Industrial Era. This is a social themed event because it relates to the improved life of lower classes (needy, sick).
  • American Civil War Ends Slavery

    In America in 1865, the end of the American Civil War took place. This resulted in the abolition of slavery in America. This was a huge social impact to America, and a positive one. This is a continuity event because it follows the trend of improving the social impact on the area by removing slavery. This relates to social because it basically eliminates a class of society, which directly relates to the social theme.
  • German Social Reforms

    In Germany starting around 1870, many social changes occured. These were the creations of agencies that regulated health, education, and welfare. This brought positive social effects, becaue these regions were benefitted. This is a continuity event because it continues the trend of social improvement in the Industrial Era. This is a social event because it involes the health of the classes, along with their education and welfare.
