The invention of modern day welding

In the year 1900 one of the first modern day welding equipments were made, the first commercial oxyacetylene welding torch.

    More processes

In 1903 a different process was invented called thermite welding, with other welding types made as well such as oxy fuel welding.
  • Improved by the minute

    Improved by the minute

One of the most well known types of welding plasma welding was invented this year by Schonner while working for the BASF.
  • Huge Improvements

    Huge Improvements

In the 1920s huge advancements were made such as a big one being automatic welding and some improvements to the brittleness of welding at the time with it being improved by using hydrogen, helium, or argon gas as an atmosphere. Shielding gas also became very talked about so that welding would not be effected by oxygen and nitrogen.

    The more types the better!

In the year 1930 underwater arc welding was invented by the national tube company, stud welding was also invented this year and was used to build many ships and with me saying that the first ever ship to be made just by welding was made this year as well.
  • Getting more advanced

    Getting more advanced

In 1956 in russia friction welding was invented were two components were rubbed together to form a bond. Flux cored arc welding was also introduced and with its self shielding wire it made welding much faster.

    Welding in outer space

In 1969 the first welding happened in space were on SOYUZ-6 some russian men welded two metal pieces back together.
  • More advanced in modern day

    More advanced in modern day

In 2000 some crazy types of welding was introduced such as magnetic pulse welding, and strangely enough an X-ray was used to weld a metal/matrix composite.
