    in 1983 Forbes Magazine voted Walmart #1 amoung all general retailers. Also in 1983 Sam Walton also opened his first Sam's Club in Midwest City, Oklahoma. they also opened stores in Iowa, North Carolina, New Mexico, and Indiana the same year.
