    Federalism focused on providing the power to ultimately the government, while Anti-Federalists were more focused on securing power for the states.

    Democratic-Republicans V. the Jacksonian Democrats
    The Democratic-Republicans were the primary government party until the mid 1820's, until the Jacksonian Democrats came out of the Democratic-Republicans and took control. Jackson's party championed greater rights for the common man and was opposed to any signs of aristocracy in the nation, while the D-R oppose the centralizing policies of the new Federalist Party.

    The modern democrat party lives by liberal standards. They favor minimum wage & a progressive tax. There is a want to decrease the government input on military spending and that abortion should be legal. Ultimately the party as a whole believes in community & that people should be socially responsible.

    The modern party lives by a conservative and tradition based life style. They believe that taxes shouldn't increase, military spending should increase, oppose legality of abortion, and that individual rights and justice should rule supreme.

    Born from the election of 1860, president Abraham Lincoln led this new party a new set of believes. They believed that the federal government should not play a big role in people's lives, and that free labor should rain supreme among the land. Lower taxes and more conservative views were also new traits of the people.
  • Roosevelt Democrats

    Roosevelt Democrats
    The Great Depression had led to a change in the typical political landscape. In his 1932 election, president Franklin D. Roosevelt led a new group of democrats who were nothing more than small farmers along with organized laborers and big city organizations. The party's main focus was that primarily on social welfare and economic programs.
