    At some point in the 1950's, skateboarding is born in California. No one knows the exact year, or who was the first to do it, though many claim credit. At first the skateboard was used by surfers when the waves weren't high enough.They just used used the wheels and trucks of roller - skates and put them onto a pice of wood.But the wheels were without bearings so it was hard to stay them moving.

  • The growth of skateboarding

    Between 1959 and 1965 skateboarding started to be popular on tge West and Eastcoast.The Skateboard wasn't a toy anymore:skateboarding was a real sport now.
  • The first manufactured skateboard

    In 1962 the surf shop "Val-Surf" manufactured the first complete skateboard.But the trucks and wheels still were roller-skate trucks.Later in 1962 "Val-Surf" introduced a more modern skateboard:The trucks now were inovated and adjusted for skateboarding.As well the wheels now had bearings.

    In the end of the 60's Larry Stevanson presented the first kicktail.
    It was a big innovation to skateboarding so that almost every skateboard company copied it and used it for their skateboards.The kicktail was much easier to move and control the skateboard.

    In 1973 the surfer and skater Frank Nasworthy experimented with urethane wheels and found out that they are better to ride and controll a skateboard so he founded his own company "Cadillac Wheels".

    Between the mid 80's and starting 80's the shape of skateboards changed a little bit and the skateboard trucks got more modified.Now it was possible to ride halfpipes.
  • From the 80's to today.

    From the 80's to today.
    In the mid 80's the shape of the skateboard deck changed: The deck now had a nose and til and wasn't as wide as before so it was easier to flip.From there on the shapes of skateboards were pretty much the same than today.
