  • Austrain balloon incident

    The Austrian navy used a series of unmanned balloons in 1849, to attack an italian city. They were guided by winds, and had only limited success. It was, however, the first recorded use of unmanned aircaft in history.
  • First use of radio-controlled aircraft

    Near the close of World War One, the United States began experimenting with radio-controlled aircraft, namely for reconnassiance in the Army.
  • Joseph P. Kennedy killed im failed drone attack

    During World War two, multiple attempts were made to use drones effectively. During Operation Aphrodite, a formation of B-17 and B-24 bombers were supposed to be used as aerial torpedos in an attack against a large dam. PIlots had to fly the planes until they were within a certain range, bail out, and from there the planes were intended to be controlled via radio.
  • Drones used for nuclear reconnasaince

    In the post World War two period, a small amount of Grumman F6F hellcat fighters were converted to be controlled via radio to collect information from atomic bomb test sights.
  • Reconnasaince drones implemented over Vietnam

    Drones were used for photo-reconnasaince in the vietnam war, in order to minimize human casualties in the Air force.
  • Battlefield UAVs used in Iraq

    After president George Bush sent the U.S military into Iraq, drones were used as ground attack aircraft against the Iraqi militants
