    The wurundjeri people owned Dights falls land and area
    The Wurundjeri people were the original owners of the Yarra river area, this area was very important to them as they would trade and do special ceremonies at this place. The Wurundjeri people would use outcrop made of rocks, as a natural crossing place, and they used the closed by junction of the Yarra river and the Merri creek, for important meetings trade, marriage and many more important ceremonies.

    Charles grimes searched the Yarra River
    In 1803 Charles Grimes went onto a search boat and searched around the area of Dights Falls to inspect what was around the Yarra river. He searched around the Yarra river, Dight Falls area and Port Phillip Bay.

    Melbourne was settled in 1835 and more people began to come and live in Melbourne which meant that many crops were grown and houses where built.

    Around the time of the 1839, a man named John Dights purchased a block of land (block 88) which included 26 acres of land crossing the Yarra river. He bought the land for £481 in Port Phillip Sydney. Then In 1841 John started to build on the land and he built a weir that helped store fish. Now Dights Falls is called this because John Dight was the original creater of the weir and land area.

    In 1840 John Phillip moved to Port Phillip because he's flour mill business had been around for 1 year now and had been going good so he decided that he wanted to try and succeed even more by moving locations.

    The Dights family abandoned their flour milling company in 1878 so the family sold the land. A man named Edwin Trennery bought the land off them but then ended up subdividing it anyway.

    In 1888 Yarra Falls Roller Mills built a water-turbine powered mill, it was the largest and most smart of the thirty two water powered mills built in Victoria before the 1900's.

    The wooden weir was built in 1895 to help provide water for the flour mill company. The water would be taken from the weir and be collected for the flour mill process. After 100 years we can still the remains today.

    Many fish were known for swimming around the weir, although when they got to the top of the weir they would get stuck and not be able to escape. With this issue continuously occurring the company Melbourne Water decided to add in a fish ladder so that the fish would be able to be free. They added it in in 2010 and finished building it in 2012 which meant that now the fish were able to roam free and swim wherever they liked.
