The Amorites were people who were believed to have come from western Mesopotamia. Hammurabi was an Amorite who ruled over Babylon.

The first ruler of Babylon was King Hammurabi. He came into power in the year of 1792 B.C. He ruled Babylon for approximately a time span of 42 years.

Hammurabi used his knowledge of war, and was able to unite all of Mesopotamia under one ruler. This then became what we know as Babylon. This is important to history because this event explains how Babylon first began. Hammurabi took his position as ruler very seriously and wanted Mesopotamia to unite into one country.

The Hittites invaded the Tigris-Euphrates Valley from Asia Minor. When they invaded this area, they also conquered and raided the Babylonians. However, the Hittites could not take over, or control, Babylon because they were too far away from their home.

During this period in time, the Hittites invade Babylon. While doing so, they shed much blood, killing the Amorite ruler and much of its people. Mursili I lead this action, and sacked Babylon.

The abacus is a calculating tool that was in use centuries before the adoption of the written Hindu–Arabic numeral system and is still used by merchants, traders and clerks in parts all around the world. During this time it is used as an everyday method of calculation by Phoenicians and Babylonians.

A new form of technology, called aqueducts, are constructed at Babylon. Aqueducts were a built so people could transport water from one place to another, which allowed them to bring a regular and controlled water supply to a place that did not receive sufficient water to meet the basic needs to fulfill activities such as irrigation for food crops and drinking fountains.

Similar to the Hittites, the Assyrians also invaded, and expanded their power, across the Fertile Crescent. Along with this, they invaded Babylon. They took everything that ever made Babylon, and completely destroyed it.

Under the leadership of Nebuchadnezzar Babylon once again became a wealthy city. The Chaldeans took control of the hotels that the Assyrians ruled.

Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar captures Jerusalem. Along with this, he deported all of the Jew to Babylon.

Cyrus the Great conquers Babylon. The Fertile Crescent is now controlled by the Achaemenid Empire, which was the first Persian empire.

Babylon is destroyed by Xerxes who was one of the kings of Persia.

Seleucos conquers Babylon and founds the Seleucid dynasty.

The Seleucids begin to rule of the Seleucids in Mesopotamia. Along with thei rule, they also created a new dynasty.
