Nick visits Daisy
Nick came from West egg to visit Daisy in East egg. Nick went over for dinner and Tom got called twice while at the table by the lady he is having an affair with."Tom's got some woman in New York". This is said by Jordan Baker because there is a rumor going around. -
Gatsby
Nick was invited to Gatsby's party by Gatsby himself. Typically, people are never invited, they just show up from all around New York. "I had been actually invited." Nick shows that he is excited that he is invited because nobody else was. When he arrives at the party, he asked a few people if they knew where the host was and they told him they had no knowledge of ever seeing him. After a while, Gatsby showed himself for the first time in the book. -
The Party
Tom went to get Myrtle from her husbands mechanic shop. Then Tom, Nick, Myrtle and more friends went to an apartment in New York and got very drunk. Nick said, " I have been drunk just twice in my life, and the second time was that afternoon." The party in the apartment was crazy. -
Lunch with Gatsby
Gatsby drove up to Nick's house and honked the horn. He says that they will go to lunch. His car was a very nice car. It was "a rich cream color, bright with nickle." Nick got in the car with Gatsby and they headed into town. Gatsby started to tell Nick that he was educated at Oxford and his family died, leaving him money. Nick didn't really believe him. -
Daisy Cries over his Shirts
Gatsby shoes Daisy his clothes including his expensive shirts. Daisy starts crying over them and says, "They're such beautiful shirts." This can show her materialistic side as she is crying because the has nice clothes. -
Gatsby meets Daisy
Jordan tells Nick about the tea arrangement. She says to tell Daisy she is invited to tea without telling her that Gatsby will be there."Shes not supposed to know about it. Gatsby doesn't want her to know. You're just supposed to invite her to tea." Jordan wants this to be secret so she will go see Gatsby. Nick told her not to bring Tom. Gatsby was very nervous at first, but then became comfortable and started to walk with Daisy. -
Daisy sees Gatsby's House
Gatsby told Daisy and Nick that he wanted them to see his house. He wanted to show them around. Jay Gatsby's home was huge and Daisy was shocked. "That huge place there?". This is said by Daisy because she didn't know his house would be so big for one person. -
Tom and Gatsby Argument
Tom decided to go into town with them and found himself in an argument with Jay Gatsby. Tom said to him, " By the way, Mr. Gatsby, i understand you're an Oxford man." This started an argument after Tom continued to question when he went.Tom asked Jay, "what kind of a row are you trying to cause in my house anyhow?" -
Myrtle Dies
When they are coming back from going to the town, they drive through the Valley of Ashes. Myrtle runs out away from her husband and gets hit by Gatsby's car. Daisy was driving Gatsby's car and she was the one who hit her. "A moment later she rushed out into the dusk, waving her hands and shouting- before he could move from his door, the business was over." -
Gatsby is Murdered
Gatsby blames himself for Myrtles death although he knows Daisy was the one who was driving. Wilson is obviously angry with the murderer and wants revenge. He knows Gatsby has a yellow car like the one who hit his wife and goes to Gatsbys home and shoots him when he is about to swim. Gatsby tells his pool person that he wants one last swim in the pool before closing it up.
