The first semester as a teacher, Mrs. Gruwell, and her students had to go through a lot. From race riots, to bad home life.

A student was trying to figure out why he was the only person that belonged in his race. He was expecting to meet all kinds of people. Different races were separated, it was like they had their own personal section.

A boy was laying on the floor only with a thick blanket and a pillow. The room, hallway, and bathroom didn't belong to him it was somebody else. He was crying, begging, and pleading that he would have a nice home again and go to his old high school.

A girl in court had to testify, who killed her best friend. She really didn't want to snitch on Paco, because that was her boyfriend. She felt all the guilt in her in the courtroom, if she snitched on Paco then all the boys on his side would jump her.

The students met Gerda Seifer, a lady that survived in the Holocaust. Gerda was forced to live in a basement where Catholics lived, and should could barely stand up because the basement was short.

The black people gave their own thoughts about how they felt about Affirmative Action. All African Americans came from the same perspective. The teacher didn't like reading books about black people in her class because they all were about negative things.

The students just found out that they were staying together their senior year in high school. Out of all of the terrible things they went through, they did not want to leave each others side. All of the students know each others deepest secrets and they were like a family together with their mom Mrs. Gruwell.

The teacher Mrs. Gruwell are looking for some mentors to help her class be successful in what they are doing. She wants them to share their knowledge and what their experience in college is. They all got to know each other better and share their goals with each other.

Graduation was around the corner and a student got the biggest news or their life. The student got accepted to UCLA and they didn't really think they deserved a good education or a good college to go to.

The Freedom Writers are now graduating and they were looking back in their previous life when there were a freshman. They really didn't understand the meaning of going to school if they couldn't achieve it. All of them think they really deserve it, and they couldn't believe they did it.
