    He was one of the greastest milatary generals the world has ever seen. He expanded and founded the roman empire. He was also the first emporer of the roman empire. While he was emporer, he started the 200 years of peace called pax romana. He also built up trade, improved the infastructures, improved the ecconemy, the art and liturature flourished.

    Pax Romana was the 200 year period that the Roman Empire had complete control of their Empire. Their goverment was good, their army was huge, and they were maintaining the Empires size.

    He was the last of the "five good emporers". He ruled from 161 C.E. to 180 C.E. He unified the vast empire economically and he spent most of his time in battle fighting off invasions. Before he died in 180 C.E., he chose his son commodus to be his successer.

    The 50 years of decline began with commodus. During this time there were serious ecconomical problems, and the were a seiries of weak and corrupted rulers. They had a mercanary milatary and the size of that milatary was way to small to defend such a vast country.

    Diocletian

    Diocletian wanted to end the decline of the roman empire. he made a critical decisions to help the empire stay together. He divided the empire into 2 sides. the western and the eastern empires. He hired a co-emporer named Maximian. Diocletian ruled the wealthier eastern half and maximian ruled the western half. He doubled the size of the army and took steps to stop the decline of the ecconemy. He aalso improved the tax structure of the roman empire. In 305 C.E., he gave up power.

    Constantine ruled the roman empire from 306 C.E. to 337 C.E. The co-emporers of the roman empire battled over who would be next emporer. They were Constantine and Licinius. Constantine defeats Licinius. He reunited the empire and bcame Christian. In 313 C.E., he creates the Edict of Milan. He aloud the people of the roman empire to worship any religon they wanted but highly recommended the christian belief. In 330 C.E., he moved the capitol to the city of byzantium, later known as Constantinople

    After Constantine died, people started to invade the Roman Empire. These invaders were the Germanic tribes. They were big men with big beards and lots of hair. The Romans knew them as the Barbarians.

    In 410 C.E., a group of the germanic tribes called the visigoths, attcked the city of Rome. The took everything of value and attacked the city and cut the food supply from going in. This was the first of the 3 devestating blows that would end rome.

    In 455 C.E., another germanic tribe group called the vandels, left the roman empire powerless, and with no leader to guide them, they didnt know what to do. This was the second of 3 devestaing blows the ended the roman empire.
  • The Ostrogoths Attack

    In 476 C.E., the germanic tribe known as the ostrogoths, attacked the Roman empire for the last time. The roman military was overpowered by the ostrogoths, and therefore, the roman empire ended.
  • Commodus

    Commodus

    Commodus was the son of the leader Marcus Aurelius. He ruled from 180 C.E. to 192 C.E. He was the begining of the end of pax romana. He was more interested in chariot races and other types of entertainment then running the goverment. He had people help him run the empire. When the empire ran short of money, he had all the wealthy citezens of the empire killed. He was assasinated in 192 C.E.
