A British Task Force,which consisted of more than 100 ships,set sail for the Falklands Islands.HMS Hermes and HMS Invinsible where the "Flagships" of the task force.Lord Carrignton,the British Foreing Secretary,resigns and is replaced by Francis Pym.

Argentinian aircraft attack the British Task Force whilst the British Planes mounts air raids on the Port Stanley airfield.

The Argentinian cruiser ,ARA General Belgrano was torpedoed and sunk by the Churchill-class Nuclear Powered Fleed Submarine.It killed more than 320 Argentinian sailors-this was the biggest loss of the war.Margaret Tatcher receives criticism because it was outside the 200-mile exclusion zone.

The British Type 42 (of sheffield-class) Guided Missile Destroyer,HMS Sheffield was abandoned after being hit by a missile.It killed 20 British sailors.
