The Eureka Rebellion

  • James Scobie Murdered

    With the miners furious about the gold licence laws. It did not take much to stir up trouble. The murder of a digger in ballarat started a chain of events that led in the rebellion at Eureka
  • Ballarat Reform League

    The miners formed a group called Ballaarat Reform League, prepared a list of demands to give to Govenor Hotham
  • Govenor Hotham gets angry

    "I'm the Govenor. I am the one that makes the demands. I'm in charge of the miners!" James Bently was released from jail.
  • Monster Meeting for the miners

    At Bakery Hill, 10,000 diggers came for a meeting and the Southern Cross flag was made
  • Rebellion

    Commisssioner Robert Rede's says
    "ARREST ANYONE WITH OUT A LICENCE!!!!
    SHOW NO MERCY!!!!!!!!!" Then the people from Commissioner Roberts Rede's army and came and started shoting and caused a war.
  • Army Started

    About 1500 Miners marched with Peter Lalor to build a stockade. By Saturday night, most of them had retruned to their tents and 120 stayed in the stockade.

    The battle of Eureka Stockade lasted 15 minutes. 25 Miners and 6 troopers were killed. The diggers lost
  • War Ended

    Hundreds of miners were arrested and 13 were charged with treason because they tried to overthrow the government.
  • Peter Lalor Hurt

    Peter Lalor's arm had to be cut off. Then he ran away. L200 was offered for the capture of Rebel Peter Lalor by the order of Govenor Charles Hotham but Peter Lalor was never captured.
