at the beginning of the story, we met Mum and the four kids, they are called tommy, Jacky and the girls we don't know there name. they live in a very small house built of timber, slabs and stringybark.

A snake suddenly appears and the children spot it and yell for their mum. The snake goes under the house and disappears. The mother was very scared for her children, so she made a bed on the kitchen table so the snake didn't get to them.
