    A In a monarchy, one person ruled, usually a king
    B The King would be in charge of making laws and act as judges. They also lead religious ceremonies and their armies during battle If someone disobeyed the laws or didn't pay their taxes, they would be punished
    C Kings also had helpers that advised him They were called aristocratic In some city-states, aristocratics thought that the king shouldn't wear the crown and rule their city-state Many aristocratics agreed and took the power for themselves
