    The Germans surrender in the battle of Stalingrad and Germany starts retreating. Soon after, The Allied Russian forces begin to take over and stop the overpowering of Germany. As soon as the war is to be lost by the Germans, Hitler and his wife commit suicide.

    US and British troops land on Sicily. By about the middle of August, the Allies were in control of the island of Sicily.

    The final writing is made in Anne's diary. She did not have time to write before the German Security Police found her and her family. She had left her book there, waiting to be found.
  • The "Secret Annex" Is No Longer Secret

    The Franks "safe living quarters" were invaded by the German Security Police. All of the residents of the the "secret annex were arrested and taken to the Gestapo headquarters where they were interrogated and held overnight.

    After the interrogation, anyone who was apart of the "secret annex" was sent to an overcrowded prison where they stayed for two nights. The prison was called the "Weteringschans prison."

    Anne and her family were sent to Westerbork transit camp and assigned to the Punishment Barracks. There they had hard labor abecause they were considered to be criminals from the hiding they did in Amsterdam.

    Anne and Margot are transported to a concentration camp. They went from the Auschwitz concentration camp to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

    The Germans launch their "final offensive" in the west, known as the "Battle of the Bulge" This was an attempt to re-conquer Belgium and split the Allied forces along the German border. But as the Allies were to strong, by January 1, 1945, the Germans were in retreat, and the World War II was coming to a definite end.

    Because of the poor conditions in the concentration camps, Anne and her sister began to get skinny and unhealthy. Anne and her sister get the disease of typhus with no treatment.
