    Manufacturers, faced a big problem. If they kept designing high-quality products that lasted decades, consumers had reason to keep buying their products. Thus, many manufacturers began to produce lower-quality appliances designed to be thrown out and replaced rather than fixed. Forcing people to keep purchasing appliances. To sell more, manufacturers created more diverse, innovative products that had a variety of features. eg. irons, had thermometers, to make old models seem outdated.

    People started to get richer so houses got bigger and could be afforded easily. Second bathrooms and extra bedrooms became common as well as a 'rumpus' room in the house. Car ownership had gone up so garages or carports were growing in number and new building materials such as lino on the floor laminex kitchen benches made cleaning easier. Building homes was approached in a more architectural way now as they began getting built for Australia's climate.

    At the start of the 1970's, owning a wide range of home appliances was deemed essential for daily living. Microwaves were not extremely popular until the early 1980s, but they'd been available since the late 1950s. Microwaves change food preparation forever - making it possible to defrost, cook or reheat food in very little time, and sending forzen convenience meal sales through the roof.

    Global energy crisis forced a lot of concern about environmentally-conscious options became available. More people stopped choosing houses in the suburbs and experimented in the bush, with mud bricks, straw bales, and raw timber. Things like solar heating started to come out.

Suburbs and the inner city changed when Europeans, who had migrated here, opened cafe's, deli's and other forms of business. It gave a new vibe and look to the areas in which this inhabitance was present. Public transport and traffic jams also came into the equation starting and creating what are the Australian streets today.

    Many, very handy, appliances came into existence at this time, that could make cappucinos, bake bread, and churn home-made ice cream. Sturdier materials were developed to make these. Also, in this time, people spent less and less time preparing meals, as many of these devices helped in small, but effective ways.

    Hundreds of thousands of new houses were built as urbans prawl hit Australia hard and never stopped. Car dependence grew more as housing grew, Urban sprawl also led to many habitats being destroyed, since cars became more common greenhouses gases grew, social problems grew as people who did not own a car or a house weren't popular, and health problems from things like car dependency leading to obesity.

    People now, spent much less time preparing meals as they used to in the 20th century, with so many handy devices that can do virtually anything, from stirring a packet of 'do it yourself' to blending your own home-made fruit smoothie. Fewer home-cooked meals started to be eaten as McDonalds, KFC, and takeout chicken and chips became extremely popular. Supermarket convenience meals also were eaten a lot, and spent less and less time in the kitchen with every passing year.

    Suburban areas grew to have bigger houses, more bathrooms, ensuites becoming more fancier and bigger, front and back yards became smaller in size, home energy sources were encouraged to be in the home, materials with less environmental impact were used, while fewer people lived in a house at once.
