    Lord Selkirk established colonies in P.E.I. and Upper Canada. He wanted to head north west, for an ambitious project.
  • A New Land

    Selkirk was given 300000 square kilometres of land. Selkirk and Hudsons Bay Company felt they had legal rights to the area, since it was apart of Rupert's Land.

    36 Scottish and Irish labourers left with Miles Macdonell to Canada. This group was to find a suitable place for the colonists. They arrived in late summer, in York Factory. Due to the summer ending, the first group had to stay in York Factory for the winter.

    More than 100 men, women, and children arrived. They were forced to seek shelter at Fort Pembina, surviving thanks to supplies of pemmican.

    Macdonell led the group to Red River Valley. They cleared and planted, but the harvest failed. They all went back to Pembina for a second winter

    A second group of 83 colonists arrived in Fort Churchill. They headed to York in the Winter, but nearly died

    In fear of the crops failing, the Pemmican Proclamation was put in place so the colonists would not stave. The Metis were infuriated, as they made a living from trading Pemmican.
  • SEND THE BRITISH AWAY!

    NWC ordered two of their employees to drie the British from the valley. They harrased the colonists, burnt buildings, destroyed crops, and fired rifles at night.
  • Lets Go Away

    100 colonists had left, and Miles Macdonell was arrested. They were taken to Fort William. The remaining colonists went to Norway House.
  • Lets Go Back Home and Do Stupid Stuff!

    Colin Robertson led the British people back to Red River Valley. He made peace with the North West Company and the Metis. Robert Semple, the new govenor, arrived with 84 new colonists. He was told to keep the peace, but ignored the warning, and had Fort Gibraltar burned
  • Let's Go Steal!

    A Metis party, with Cuthbert Grant, went to the Assiniboine River, taking a large supply of Pemmican from HBC boats. The stolen food was taken to Lake Winnipeg, for the NWC fur traders.
  • Battle Of Seven Oaks

    Battle Of Seven Oaks
    NWC are spotted, and are confronted by Semple and 24 other men. The Metis made two groups and surrounded the group. An attempt at a parley was made, until shots were fired. A 15 minute gun fight began. Semple and twenty of his men died, and only 1 Metis. The skirmish is now knowen as Battle Of Seven Oaks, or Victory of Frog Plain.
  • After Battle

    Grant ordered that the remaining colonists leave RR without harm. During this, Selkirk was returning to RR with 100 Swiss mercenaries. When he heard of the battle, he took the NWC post at Fort William. The colonists returned to RRV.
  • Lets Negotiate!

    Selkirk negotiated a treaty with the local First Nations for land, and gave it to the colonists, promising a church and school.
  • Die!

    Selkirk died after returning to England, and fighting law suits for three years
