    Considered one of the first major crisis' of the Cold War, This was the USSR withdrawing from Great Alliance. Almost started a war in Germany.

    There was no longer just tension between the US and the Soviet Union. The was the first proxy war that the US and USSR faught in a third country.

    This continued to push a bad relationship between the US and the USSR. The two superpowers were at conflict in vietnam.

  • The Hungarian Revolution *

    Post war Hungary's crippling development under Stalinist government exposed the weaknesses of eastern eruopean communism. This was one of the USSR's lowest moments.

  • The U-2 Reconiassance Plane */^

    A US plane was shot down by the USSR. This heated things up between the two, reason being that they both saw the events as acts of aggression.

  • The Bay of Pigs Invasion #

    A failed attempt by the US to invade and overthrow FIdel Castro, and stop the spread of communism throughout the world. This led to an increase in Cold War tensions.

    Being one of the first steps in slowing down the arms race between the US and the USSR in the Cold War. Both superpowers agreed to limit amount of nuclear weapons in their arsenal.

    This was evidence that the War Saw Pact's days were numbered. East Germany breaks free of communism, reunites with West Germany.

  • The Collapse of the Soviet Union *^

    Internal political, economic and ethnic disintegration within the USSR resulted in the end of its existence as a sovereign state.
